Last week, Lebanon’s parliament amended a clause in a 1946 law that had been used to bar the 400,000 Palestinians living in the country from taking any but the most menial jobs. “I was born in Lebanon and I have never known Palestine,” the AP quoted one 45-year-old Palestinian who works as a cab driver. “We want to live like Lebanese. We are human beings and we need civil rights.” The dirty little secret of the Arab world is that it has consistently treated Palestinians living in its midst with contempt and often violence. In 1970, Jordan expelled thousands [...]
While the West Bank and Gaza have suffered from wars, political instability and limited access to resources, the Web has proliferated. Internet penetration—the percentage of the population that uses the Web—is estimated at 40% in the West Bank and as high as 60% in Gaza. Both figures are higher than those in many other Arab nations. One reason is the proximity of the Palestinian territories to Israel, which is the region’s leader in Internet development. Another factor is the high rate of literacy in the territories, estimated at 92%. Perhaps most significant, however, is that Palestinians’ isolation—and inability to [...]
A specter is haunting the prospective Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations—the specter of the Nakba. The literal meaning of the Arabic word is “disaster”; but in its current, expansive usage, it connotes a historical catastrophe inflicted on an innocent and blameless people (in this case, the Palestinians) by an overpowering outside force (international Zionism). The Nakba is the heart of the Palestinians’ backward-looking national narrative, which depicts the creation of the State of Israel in 1948 as the original sin that dispossessed the land’s native people. Every year, on the anniversary of Israel’s independence, more and more Palestinians (including Arab citizens [...]
We hear, almost daily, about how the Palestinians “just want their own state.” They’ve been oppressed and misused, and just either a “one state solution,” with a secular democratic state where Israel now stands, or they want an Islamic state alongside Israel, and for all the “refugees” to “return home.” I have a challenge for those who think these are reasonable demands:
Show me.
Show me the Islamic state, right now, that is democratic in the fullest sense of the word. Pakistan, you say? You mean this Pakistan? Oh, Turkey? You mean the Turkey that recently sponsored a “peace [...]
The Basic Facts
*There were 100 million refugees in the world since Second World War, and 80 million refugees during 1933-1945. Most are no longer refugees. Only the Arabs have perpetuated the Palestinian refugees, as a means to destroy Israel.
*820,000 Jewish refugees and 300,000 Palestinian refugees were produced by a war launched, against Israel, by the Palestinians and the Arab states.
*300,000 Palestinian refugees: 800,000 resided in the country in November 1947 and 170,000 upon the conclusion of Israel’s War of Independence. 100,000 were allowed to return, 100,000 were absorbed in Arab countries, 50,000 Bedouins joined their tribes [...]
This is a “concentration [...]
Why isn’t this being reported in the American media, I wonder?
The Palestinian news agency Ma’an quoted the Lebanese daily An-Nahar saying on Wednesday that Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri may call on parliament speaker Nabih Berri to remove a proposal granting Palestinian refugees civil rights from the plenum agenda. … MPs from the March 14 bloc, spearheaded by the Christian Phalangist and Maronite parties, have introduced their own, weaker refugee rights bill. This bill grants refugees humanitarian and social rights but not civil rights. Lebanon’s the Daily Star reported Tuesday that their law would “provide refugees with a work [...]
We see pictures of them almost every day —Palestinian refugees in their broken down homes, complaining about their “occupation” by a foreign power, Israel. At other times we see pictures of the Palestinian markets, with big buckets of candy, barber shops, and the like. What is the truth about the people? The truth is they live in a police state, where conditions can sometimes be harsh, and at other times appear normal.
But what government is making these people’s lives miserable during those times when it is miserable? Here is a clue:
Last night, 25 armed, masked men set [...]
You’ve heard it was all about bringing “humanitarian aid” to the poor Palestinians? Let me point out several things. First, “Palestine,” gets all of its petroleum products, like gasoline, from where? Heating oil? Propane? Israel, of course. The same Israel that’s not allowed to buy any sort of oil based product from any Muslim nation. Some blockade, huh? And what about all that foreign aid that pours into “Palestine” every year? From what I understand, Palestine receives more aid from the UN and other countries than any other area of the world.
So if the flotilla wasn’t really about [...]
The big, compelling reason people who claim to be ‘friends’ of Israel are pressuring them to give up the country’s heartland to the Arabs is the so-called demographic bomb..the idea that the Arab birthrate is rapidly overtaking the Jewish one and that Israel had better do this now or face being a minority in the area between the Jordan and the Mediterranean. It’s a myth, as I’ve discussed before and anyone who looks at the actual numbers ought to realize it out of hand. -JoshuaPundit
The numbers look like the Israel/Arab percentages have stayed about the same since [...]
