Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lisa Jackson said her agency’s inaugural regulations on greenhouse gas emissions on cars were only “the first” of such regulations, promising that her agency would move “deliberately” to institute regulations in other areas of the economy as well.
Speaking to reporters on a conference call on Thursday to announce the new regulations on cars and light trucks, Jackson explained that ““ for now ““ the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was only regulating greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from cars and light trucks. - CNS News
Given the current environment of government expansion—the US Government has just taken over the entire healthcare system, is taking over whatever remains of entire college education system, has taken over entire car companies and banks, and is working to take over many other aspects of our lives—its crucial to begin asking: is there any limit to government power?
When will we hear a government official say, “And with the passage of this regulation, we have fulfilled our goals, and will work enforcing the rules we already have?” We’ve heard how the healthcare legislation just passed are “just the beginning,” and how these new EPA regulations are “just the beginning,” and how the new financial regulations are “just the beginning.” Where is the end to these new regulations?
When does the government have enough power, precisely? Unlike economics, political power is a zero sum game. While economic success can make more wealth without hurting anyone, if you give power to one person, you inevitably take it from another person.
Ah, but the government is acting in my best interests, along the “will of the people,” right? I hate to break the news to you, but the “dictatorship of the people,” is a lie, a myth, an oxymoron. Isn’t the dictatorship of the people just each individual controlling themselves? If the dictatorship of the people means for people to give their power to government in trade for the people controlling the government, how do the people actually control the people once the government controls the people? How can you control someone who is controlling you? In the end, communitarianism—communism and socialism—always come back to a small group of people, or one person, wielding power over all others. Communitarianism is a lie, communism will always fail, socialism is a myth. There is no “collective,” only a dictator.
And when does any government, anywhere, at any time, ever say, “I now have enough power, I need no more?” Certainly the government of the US has long since left the idea of limiting itself, or paying attention to the limits the people place on it, in the rear view mirror.
When does a dictator become a tyrant?
