I sometimes feel like I’m living in an upside down world. Of course, it could be because I am living in an upside down world. To begin, we have a story on the inversion of property rights. If you thought eminent domain was bad in the US, it’s been taken to an entirely new, and personal, level in the UK.
With the building works nearly over, Julian and Samantha Mosedale and their three children were looking forward to moving back into the home of their dreams. But their hopes have turned into a nightmare because a group of Romanians occupied the property over Christmas. To add insult to injury, police told them that they were being ‘racist’ for questioning the squatters’ right to live in Britain on benefits. The unwanted guests have changed the locks at the three-bedroom terrace house and moved in their own furniture. -via Bookworm Room
Out in California, there has been a suit filed to void Proposition 8 on state constitutional grounds. Proposition 8 is the referendum that made same sex marriage illegal in the State.
Most troubling, Judge Walker has also ruled that the trial will investigate the Proposition 8 sponsors’ personal beliefs regarding marriage and sexuality. No doubt, the plaintiffs will aggressively exploit this opportunity to assert that the sponsors exhibited bigotry toward homosexuals, or that religious views motivated the adoption of Proposition 8. They’ll argue that prohibiting gay marriage is akin to racial discrimination. -Heritage
In other words, it doesn’t matter if the measure passed, or is constitutional, all that matters is that the supporters and sponsors of the legislation be shown up as bigots for religious reasons. After that, the religious beliefs of only one side count. The side supporting same sex marriage has no religious beliefs or agenda, right? It couldn’t be that same sex marriage could generate all sorts of issues within custody battles, could it? While Oliver Stone is making a new miniseries that will put Hitler and Stalin “in context,” which generally means to make a sympathetic case for their actions, we have the new musical “Hope,” opening in Germany.
The main character is presented less on a political level, but rather as an emotional person who fights for a new, more forgiving and peaceful world and a better future… Caused by the prevailing tight political and economic situation, societal and social frictions and emotions arise. The people are given new hope by the new spirit of the age. -Newsbusters
Of course, a musical story based on an emotional character that will give people hope ‘by the new spirit of the age.’ The new spirit of the age that will bring “the christ” on a wave of peace. Why am I not surprised by the total focus on emotion? Of course, we need all these enlightened, intelligent, and emotionally connected people to tell teenagers how to be proper parents.
Britain has the highest teenage pregnancy rate in Europe. Approximately four of every 100 British girls under age 18 become pregnant every year. An average of 22 girls under the age of 15 become pregnant every day. The government’s solution? Make it compulsory for all British teens to take lessons on how to be a parent. -The Trumpet
Maybe telling them not to be parents in the first place would be the better idea? Nahh… That smacks of personal responsibility. And we can’t have personal responsibility, now can we? After all, it doesn’t matter who owns the house, just who squats there. Maybe, just maybe, this entire focus on emotional connections has gone just a little too far.
When your man asked if his best friend could join you for dinner, you didn’t really mind ““ you thought it might be fun for a change. At no point did you think you’d be the gooseberry, but here you are being largely ignored, as your man hangs on his buddy’s every word, agreeing with all his opinions and finding everything he does hilarious. His best friend is upstaging you simply by sticking two breadsticks in his upper lip and pretending to be a walrus.
Welcome to the bromance. Largely, social progressions are a good thing, and modern men are open, communicative and affectionate with the women they love. The problem is that now men are also increasingly open, communicative and yes, even affectionate, with their male friends. And when it comes to his best friend, well, it can end up being such a close relationship that you start to feel jilted.
Sickening.
